Louisville Marathon Runners: Kentucky Derby Marathon or Backside Trail Marathon?

Residents of Louisville know that the most exciting time of year is just around the corner.  I’m talking about springtime of course, but more importantly…Kentucky Derby Festival.  I’m sure you know people that go out of town every year for Derby weekend because this city turns into crazytown (which, by the way there’s nothing wrong with leaving town for derby weekend), however even those people will most likely attend some of the Kentucky Derby Festival events.  There is no denying that during the weeks leading up to the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby there are a million things to do … Continue reading Louisville Marathon Runners: Kentucky Derby Marathon or Backside Trail Marathon?

Buying a Home in Louisville, KY: Step 2

As I see it, steps one and two in buying a home are interchangeable really, but I’m a Realtor, so I used “hire a good local Realtor” as step one.  As I also mentioned in step one, timing is everything.  After finding a home to purchase, the longest part of the process is generally the financing.  Just as there are a lot of moving parts in closing a real estate transaction, there are equally as many or more moving parts to a home loan approval.  It is for this reason I say step 2 to buying a home is find … Continue reading Buying a Home in Louisville, KY: Step 2

Buying a Home in Louisville, KY: Step 1

Most people already know multiple Realtors.  Whether or not you are comfortable using any of the Realtors that you know is a different story.  Everyone has their own reasons for why they would or would not use … Continue reading Buying a Home in Louisville, KY: Step 1

Highlands Short Sale Home: What does that mean?

If you had a pulse during the last decade or so; or if you watch HGTV or national news then you have probably heard the term “short sale”.  If you actually spoke to someone who was involved in a short sale then you probably heard a lot of cursing mixed in with the words “short sale”.  The process is relatively new and has become more and more prevalent during the economic downturn.  For this reason (and many other reasons) the process can be painful. What does it actually mean?  Simply put, it means that the owner of the property owes … Continue reading Highlands Short Sale Home: What does that mean?

Highlands Grocery Stores: Why Kroger? Why ValuMarket? Why not BOTH!

In the urban environment we live in known as The Highlands, we are lucky enough to have a few stores to choose from when it comes to groceries.  I’m sure some people don’t look into it as much as I do, but I see these choices each as having their own special place in the neighborhood.  Everyone has their own method for choosing where they shop, but I figured I would take a second to explore the options.  Some people would say that convenience is key and some people might say that price is the determining factor.  Still, other people … Continue reading Highlands Grocery Stores: Why Kroger? Why ValuMarket? Why not BOTH!

Highlands Homes: Cherokee Triangle and Hunter S Thompson

Most Louisvillians can tell you at least one of Louisville’s celebrity claims to fame.  Depending on the age of the person you talk to you will undoubtedly hear names like Tom Cruise,  Muhammad Ali, and Hunter S Thompson.  There is no shortage of Louisville natives that have spent time in the spotlight, however it becomes very interesting now with this thing called “the internet” to be able to narrow down specifics about these people that have helped put our sweet city on the map.  Growing up in the Cherokee Triangle I have heard numerous Hunter S Thompson stories, however the … Continue reading Highlands Homes: Cherokee Triangle and Hunter S Thompson

Grinstead Drive is Scarier Than Clowns

**They’ve made Grinstead Dr less scary. Here’s the follow-up. Since I turned 16 and got my driver’s license, Grinstead Dr has been somewhat of a nemesis since it robbed the integrity of the hood and front bumper on my first vehicle (1989 Honda Prelude – Yellow) after I crossed traffic and hit a telephone pole head on in the snow.  Yes, I was 17.  No, I wasn’t speeding.  I also have another nemesis: Clowns.  They are wicked scary.  Whether you live in The Highlands or not, if you live in Louisville, KY you might have driven down Grinstead Dr once or … Continue reading Grinstead Drive is Scarier Than Clowns

Lynn’s Paradise Cafe Closes. Wait…WHAT?

A lot of people were disappointed this morning when they arrived at the front door of Lynn’s Paradise Cafe only to find it was CLOSED!  If you’re like me and most other people in the city of Louisville, you were a bit surprised to hear the news.  For many people it would seem quite abrupt to shut your doors the way owner Lynn Winter did, especially if you live in The Highlands and you drive by the neighborhood staple frequently enough to see the crowds that gather there.  I personally haven’t been to Lynn’s Paradise Cafe in over 3 months, but not because … Continue reading Lynn’s Paradise Cafe Closes. Highlands of Louisville, KY – What’s a million bucks?

What’s a million bucks? Well, if you were talking about real estate in The Highlands of Louisville, KY you would need to know that there wasn’t actually a sale for more than $965,000 during 2012.
