The Oak Street Po’ Boy Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana is in its 8th year. One of our favorite local restaurants, Cafe Lou Lou, with two Louisville locations, is once again throwing their own Po’ Boy party all weekend long as a tribute! A recent menu change at this Louisville restaurant brought one of these creatively delicious, historic New Orleans sandwiches to a permanent spot on Cafe Lou Lou’s menu with the addition of the cheeseburger po’ boy. To celebrate the Oak Street Po’ Boy Festival, they will add a number of special po’ boys to the menu for the weekend of November 21 – 23. Here are the details:
FIRST
Cafe Lou Lou opens at 11:00 am, and closes at 11:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 10:00 pm on Sundays. But don’t just think you’re going to stroll in. Get there early. It will be wicked busy. If you end up having to wait, don’t leave! You will regret it! A wait is absolutely worth it for Cafe Lou Lou and Po’ Boy weekend.
SECOND
The special Po’ Boys at Cafe Lou Lou this weekend include the following:
- Fried Shrimp
- Andouille Coney
- Hot Brown
- Brie Ham Balsamic Pear
- Roast Beef
THIRD
If you have never rocked out with Cafe Lou Lou during Po’ Boy weekend, you need to make it a priority. Not only is it a blast, but it brings you to New Orleans for a brief moment, and instills the pride of the po’ boy festival in your heart with decor and flavor.
FOURTH
The history of the Poor Boy Sandwich is fascinating. Trace the roots of the po’ boy all the way back to the 1930s, when the price was around fifteen cents for a full sandwich. Check out the Oak Street Po’ Boy Festival website for a full history, but stop by Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands, or St Matthews this weekend, Friday, November 21st through Sunday, November 23rd to taste it for yourself. It’s guaranteed to be a delicious experience!
